Dr Rebecca Wade

Dr Rebecca Wade is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science at Abertay University in Dundee where her teaching and research focus on sustainable water management, nature-based solutions and climate change. Her research is practical and applied, often working with landowners, stakeholders and communities, her work spans whole-catchments from upland and rural locations through to lowland and urban settings. She is dedicated to working collaboratively to address climate, nature and societal challenges and tries to inspire others to do the same. She undertakes projects with local authorities, the NHS, industry partners, charities, artists and cultural organisations. For over 20 years she has coordinated SUDSnet, an international network and community of practice for sustainable drainage researchers and practitioners. Prior to joining The Scottish Flood Forum Rebecca has gained many years of Board experience as a Director at Dundee Science Centre and a Trustee with the Esk Rivers and Fisheries Trust.
Rebecca’s collaborative work and public engagement efforts have been recognised by several awards including ‘STEM Ambassador of the Year’ (Institution of Civil Engineers, Scotland and UK); ‘Woman of Influence 2022’ (Action for Children Scotland), Rivers Prize 2023 (The River Restoration Centre) and in 2024 she was named as one of the ‘Top 50 Women in Engineering’ by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES). In her spare time undertakes public engagement and outreach activities, is a keen hillwalker, cyclist and outdoor swimmer, she enjoys travel and nature photography.
